Special Blessings

Blessing of the Backpacks, Students and Educators

Bring your backpacks, your students, your teachers…  to our Meeting House at 10 am on the last Sunday in August.   All will be Blessing of the Backpacks, Students and Educatorsblessed for the new academic year ahead.    In addition, we will again be collecting dark colored backpacks for homeless persons to be distributed through New Milford Social Services.  So if you wish to purchase new extras or if you have gently used ones in very good condition, please bring along that day.

Honoring our Work and Blessing of the Tools of Our Trades

Our annual Labor Day Sunday joint service with Salem Covenant Church will be held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend at 10:30 am in the pavilion behind Washington Primary School - Rain or Shine!

Bring “tool” that represents the work that you do that is lightweight and portable - either one of the primary tools you use or something that is symbolic of that work: laptop, date book, smart phone, hammer, backpack, etc.

Join us as we break bread with others in the greater community - and bring a friend to share in the blessing.  Pastor Cheryl will give the sermon and will lead the service along with Rev. Linda Williams.  Come and join us for this casual outdoor service!

Homecoming  and Mixing of the Waters

Mixing of the WatersSecond Sunday in September.  Over the summer, in whatever place you go to recharge (experience Sabbath), remember to save some water in a bottle.  From a lake, a stream, an ocean, or your kitchen tap!  Be sure to label it and save it in a safe spot to bring along for our annual “Mixing of the Waters” at the Homecoming service as we begin another year of exploring and celebrating Sabbath together.

This special service is followed by the annual “Last Gasp of Summer” picnic on the Green.  There will be a cookout hosted by our Deacons.  Plan to bring something for the pot-luck table:  a salad, other side dish or dessert.  Comfy chair, lawn games…  Dress accordingly!
