The New Beginnings Ministry

…where ‘one’ is a whole number

New Beginnings is a single-life ministry of The First Congregational Church. Our purpose is to provide a Christian focused church-based program for single adults. We seek to help single adults to find purpose and wholeness in all dimensions of their lives—physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.  At the heart of our ministry are our support groups, which offer healing and personal growth to participants.  We also have a social component to our ministry, which provides opportunities to meet new friends and enjoy new experiences.

Divorce Support Group - We offer a ten-week Divorce Support Group on Tuesday evenings which is closed to new members after the second week of each cycle. This group is intended for those who are struggling with issues related to separation and divorce. It is also beneficial for those beyond the initial crisis of divorce who are still struggling with unresolved issues relative to the loss of their intimate relationship.  Contact us for the starting date of our next 10-week cycle.  Or check our home page for current announcements on upcoming open registration.

We don’t promise miracles…but we believe we have seen them.

Additional Support Groups:

Bereavement Group - When the need arises, we offer this group for those who are struggling with the death of a spouse. The group focuses on healing the emotional and spiritual wounds of grief and loss, and provides an opportunity to connect and find mutual support among others who share a similar loss. The group runs for ten weeks and is closed after the second week.

Single Life Support Group - We offer this forum several times each year. The group meets for ten weeks and is intended for those who are beyond the crisis of divorce or death and are trying to begin life anew. Topics to be discussed are determined by the participants. Possible topics include dealing with the loneliness of single life; recapturing self-esteem following a divorce; breaking out of the stay-at-home rut; financial issues; dating possibilities; and discovering strengths, passions and gifts.

Please note that pre-registration is required for all of these groups. Please refer to our calendar to see when the next group may be offered. Call the church at 860-868-0569, or email us for additional information.

Social Activities -Another important part of our mission is to provide a safe and supportive place for people to be single. Our weekly Friday night pot luck suppers are very popular with our members. Many feature a special program or theme. Theater trips, concerts, dances, hikes, picnics on Lake Waramaug and book discussion groups are some of other events that round out our overall social program.  Come join us!

Our monthly calendar/newsletter provides details and contact information for all upcoming activities.  This is an offline mailing, so please contact us if you wish to be included in the list.
