Change Ourselves, Change the World

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. ... We need not wait to see what others do.”
- Mahatma Gandhi

There is a lot going on at our church this weekend!  I want to especially call your attention to the two memorial services being held on Friday and Saturday.  (A full list of these special services is included in the announcement sidebar.)

Friday at 2 pm, we will celebrate the life of Estelle Bronson
And on Saturday at 10:30 am, the celebration of life will be honoring Susan Emerling.

If you are attending either one of these services, we'd like to remind you of the tight parking situation in our part of town.  If at all possible, please car-pool.  Note that out of courtesy to our neighbors who will be open during these times, the Gunn Library and Museum, we are asking that you park on Kirby Road, in St. John's Church lot, or in the parking spaces associated with the Washington Club, leaving upper spaces for library and museum patrons who are not attending the service.

Whether or not you attend those services, it would be wonderful to have you join us this Sunday as the Rev. Anne Marie Davenport shares her reflections on the importance of taking time, slowing down, and "Keeping Sabbath".  The choir will sing and you can have the opportunity to greet Maddie Gorra and congratulate her on the wonderful job she did raising money and awareness about the good work of St. Baldrick's Foundation and their work helping children with cancer for her Shepaug senior project.  Maddie and her sister, Abbie Gorra, two of our ushers this week, will be sporting brand new haircuts from the head-shaving event that happened last Thursday.  Come!

Throughout the month of May, we will continue to accept annual One Great Hour of Sharing offerings.    A big thanks to those who have contributed already.  If you have not yet done so, you can use the envelope supplied in a letter you may have received recently, drop off at the church office or duly marked into the weekly offering box on Sunday, or you can give online through our secure giving portal.

Download and read the May Journal today!  The monthly newsletter is packed with news and information about our lives together.  Be sure to download today and read.  Of special interest to me is the survey you will find on page 12.  That page is intended to be cut and mailed, however, there is an online form so you can fill out that survey now.  The responses we do or do not get on this will affect the frequency and content of our monthly newsletter so if you read it and would like to voice your opinion, please respond today.

May the rest of your week be filled with peace and joy!
