Judea Weekly eNews for January 26 - Seeking a message

Dear Friends,

From now until the beginning of March/ Lent, we will continue our focus on “Encountering Scripture.”  This week from the portable pulpit in the church hall, Pastor Cheryl will reach into scriptural examples to talk about how we need to be persistent in seeking a message from the “still speaking” Bible that is relevant for our time.  In other words, what might Jesus do now?  If you have not seen or read the book that our Bible scholar “regulars” are studying now, you might want to check out a copy of “Saving Jesus from the Church: How to stop worshiping Christ and start following Jesus.”  The author is Rev. Robin R. Meyers.  Copies can be obtained from the library, Hickory Stick Bookshop, or online.  It just may give you some insight into how you might discover God still speaking in your life.  Of course, coming to church this Sunday could give you a jump-start.

A few time-sensitive announcements appear on the right that touch on the topics of what Jesus might be involved with these days.  You just might find him while you are listening to some beautiful music this Sunday at the benefit concert for Loaves and Fishes at St. John’s Church in New Milford (after making a generous donation, of course)  Or you might encounter him at Pastor Cheryl’s talk in Southbury on the 4th of February.  And I really do think that even if you don’t run into him at the talk by Rev. Becca Stevens on February 19, you will recognize his imprint on the stories she tells about the fruits of Thistle Farm.  If you want a sneak preview of what Thistle Farm is all about, take a few minutes to view this video.

Finally, you heard it here first:  Plans are in the works for a special dance on the open floor of the Meeting House – mid-renovation – to celebrate Pastor Cheryl’s 20th anniversary in the ministry and at this church and the church’s 275th anniversary.  The date will be announced very soon.  Keep an eye out!  It will also be a fundraiser for the Meeting House renovations.  We’ll need all your help in spreading the word and pulling together a great big crowd for a terrific party!

Good health and many blessings to you!  Hope to see you Sunday!
