Change Ourselves, Change the World

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. ... We need not wait to see what others do.”
- Mahatma Gandhi

Judea Weekly eNews for January 19

Dear Friends,

We've been meeting for worship these past couple of weeks in the Parish House hall while our Meeting House is undergoing renovations.  Feedback has been very positive about our temporary new space and we'd love it if you would join us!  Between now and the end of Lent, our Faith Practices topic is "Encountering Scripture."  Pastor Cheryl will be talking about encounters with scripture since early Christianity to what has come to be written on our hearts and what that means to us today.  And Carrie Loyd has been working with Pastor Cheryl to come up with some fun and meaningful ways for Sunday Schoolers  to encounter scripture.

The Youth Group will have had their "sleep"-over Saturday night and so may be a little bleary-eyed come Sunday morning.  Fear not!  We welcome you no matter who you are, where you are on your life's journey, or what you are wearing!  Pajamas included.

Judging from Sunday's "prayers of the people", aka "joys and concerns", there are a lot of people seeking prayers for others lately - and maybe even themselves.  Remember, we have an online prayer list where you can post any special intentions where you can log a prayer request any time of the day or night.  Just go to:  http://www.firstchurchwashingtonct.org/page/prayer_requests.  Also, the dedicated members of our Comfort Shawl Project are prepared to provide a comfort shawl for anyone in need - in illness or in joy.  Please see Shirley Downs or MariLyn Roze, or the church office, if you would like one.

There are some additional/new announcements to share. See the right sidebar or our home page for upcoming events and activities.

Blessings to all!
