Change Ourselves, Change the World

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. ... We need not wait to see what others do.”
- Mahatma Gandhi

Judea eNews for Oct 13 - Opportunities to Care

What do you care about – besides family, sports, maybe even politics?  Here at First Church, one of our main missions is seeking out opportunities to care: about each other, our community, our spiritual lives, the environment, those less fortunate, those serving our country, the facilities and property that we are entrusted with at this church, and more.  This weekend, we have opportunities to satisfy all of those interests.

  • THIS SATURDAY – Our church is taking stewardship seriously (but with a dose of good company and fun).  We are holding an All-Church Clean-Up day, beginning at 9 am.  Come for an hour or several.  All able-bodied folks are asked to join in.  There are a multitude of opportunities you can select from:  gardening outside (weeding, pruning), inside there is everything ranging from clearing out clutter (sorting and dumping) to cleaning surfaces of all sorts.  Cleaning out unneeded clutter will help us to determine more effective ways of allocating space here and facilitating growth.
  • Laying the Foundation for Growth: Our stewardship campaign is underway! Please check your email inbox for pledging information or click HERE to make your pledge now.
  • Friday, the Town Hall Gang will be preparing packages for a local sailor, John Morrissey, son of Cynthia Hogan, who works at Rumsey Hall.  He will be sharing the goodies with his shipmates.  You can help by dropping off some requested items to the Town Hall.
  • When you come to help on Saturday, you can bring your donation for our annual coat drive and/or clean, warm clothing.  And maybe a few items for the Food Drive.  Or consider giving an extra financial contribution for disaster relief to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew.
  • Flash-Back to 1950 – Sunday’s 10 am service will be in the fashion of a 1950 service here at First Congregational Church.  In fact, the bulletin is even reasonable facsimile of what it was in October 1950.  Never fear, Pastor Cheryl’s sermon will provide its usual uplift for your week!  Come join us – and dress the part as best you can.  Remember, women wore skirts or dresses and something on their head and men wore a hat, too, but left theirs on the hat racks in the narthex!

You can read more about most of these opportunities in the notices in the right sidebar.

We hope to see you on Saturday!
