Judea eNews for April 12 - Seeking Presence and Peace in Sabbath

Judea eNews for April 12 - Seeking Presence and Peace in Sabbath

Dear Friends,

The worship service was MAGICAL last Sunday as Pastor Cheryl and the Rev. David Reed-Brown ushered in Sabbath with wonder and joy!  You can see for yourself on our FaceBook page or in the Magic Sunday photo gallery on our website.

This Sunday, Sabbath is fully underway so come, set down your burdens of worry and responsibility and join us.  We will begin an Earth Day celebration a week in advance and also celebrate Silver Lake Conference Center, where young people experience nature, make new friends, and explore their faith. It is also a place where Creation, "The" Environment, plays an important role.  If your camper is at least in the 4th grade and has not yet registered for a summer conference this year, this is another reminder to make that happen!  If your campers are too old to attend, perhaps you can help to ensure that all kids who want to go can do so, regardless of their ability to pay.  If so, then be an angel and check out the announcement on the right about the Jack Jewett Fund for Silver Lake Campers.

Maybe Sabbath for you this Saturday will involve hearing the heavenly sounds of Chorus Angelicus in the Meeting House at 4 pm for Brahms ein Deutsches Requiem.  For tickets and more information, read the announcement on the right or go to www.chorusangelicus.com.

And finally, we are down to two available tables for Trivia Night to benefit the Loaves and Fishes Hospitality House new building fund.  One of those tablese is a "Table of Rogues" that currently needs more people to fill that out.  Read the announcement on the right or download the flyerSign up NOW.

You can now download the Judea Journal April Supplement with Pastor's letter, schedules, events, and news for April!  Download it NOW by clicking here.

May you find presence and peace in the week ahead!

Trivia Night... Saturday, April 21

Individuals and couples are invited to play with us on
Saturday, April 21

Book your table now!!  We are almost at capacity!

The First Congregational Church of Washington, in conjunction with the Litchfield South Association of the CT Conference of the UCC,
is holding a TRIVIA NIGHT to benefit
the Loaves and Fishes Hospitality House in New Milford.

Loaves and Fishes is one of our regular missions and is near and dear to us so we would like to join in.  AND… it promises to be great fun!

The game will consist of TWELVE TEAMS of 5-6 people.  Each team will contribute $100 to play.  That amounts to $20 or less per person for a night of fun and challenge.  There will be other opportunities to contribute, too, with a 50/50 raffle.

Teams will bring refreshments and arrive between 5:45 and 6:15 for check-in and getting everyone seated.  The game will begin at 6:30 pm.

We are currently accepting registrations for teams.  If you want to play but don’t have a team, contact us and we can hook you up with a team.

Please contact Karen by email or phone 860-868-0569 as soon as possible if you are interested in participating as a contestant or if you wish to help out as volunteer.   To download the flyer, click here.

Give to the Jack Jewett Fund for Silver Lake Scholarships

Silver Lake Registration Time is Here Again!  Please help our kids who cannot afford to grow at camp for a week this summer by contributing to our Jack Jewett Fund.  Each year, this fund helps to offset some of the cost for our kids to continue to experience God in our world through lively and engaging programs, amazing social opportunities as well as spiritual growth.

You may send your check to First Congregational Church, attn: Jack Jewett Fund, PO Box 1285, Washington, CT 06795.  Or place a check in the Sunday offering with "Jack Jewett Fund" in the memo line.

To hear more about it, visit the Silver Lake website for information and an overview video on the home page.

Judea Garden Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome to the 2018 gardening season!

Volunteers are the backbone of Judea Garden. Without them, the Garden would not be able to provide fresh produce to those in need.

There are so many ways to help, whether in the Garden itself, helping with distribution or doing supportive work that keeps the Judea Garden project going. There’s a place for every volunteer to use their skills or develop new ones.

Our church sponsors the broccoli crop and is coordinated by Judie Gorra.  If you wish to give her a hand in any way and any amount of time, please contact her today!

Go to http://www.steeprockassoc.org/judea-garden/judea-garden-volunteers/ for a list of opportunities.  Or you may contact Judie Gorra (860.868.7852), by email. or Denise Arturi (Denise.Arturi@steeprockassoc.org).
