Change Ourselves, Change the World

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. ... We need not wait to see what others do.”
- Mahatma Gandhi

Honoring Grandma Shirley at the River Service THIS Sunday!

After 13 years of volunteering in the nursery room on Sundays, Shirley Downs (aka Grandma Shirley) has decided to retire.  We are honoring her at the annual river service down beside the Shepaug River at 52 River Road at the home of Susan Jahnke and Conrad Weeks.  Of course, strawberry shortcake will be a part of the celebration!

Kate Vengrove has offered to compile a scrap book for her, filled with pictures and notes from kids of all ages who had the good fortune of being in her care at any time during those 13 years.  Parents’ notes of thanks would be welcome as well!!

To be included in the scrap book, pictures, stories or letters of thanks:

  • Drop off at the church office by Thursday, June 16, 1 pm.
  • or send it to Kate by mail or drop off NO LATER THAN THIS SATURDAY, June 18, to the Vengrove home at 37 Canterbury Road, New Milford.
  • Originals of artwork or handwritten notes are best but email of scans or typed notes from parents can be emailed to Kate anytime before Saturday, June 18.

Please plan on coming to the service if you can!!!  10 am as usual.  In the unlikely case of rain, we will hold the service at the Meeting House.

SHHHH!!!!  Don't tell Shirley!  It's all a big surprise!

Questions about the scrapbook?  Contact Kate by email.
