Judea Weekly eNews for Dec 8 - Looking for some Peace?

Dear Friends,

This Sunday is already the THIRD Sunday in Advent!  Wow.  So I am looking forward to the Comfort and Peace service this Sunday at 5 pm for the time to sit and meditate on my preparations for Christmas during this Advent season.   Throughout that service, the good Pastor has us spending some well-spaced moments of silence to contemplate and cultivate hope.  Though our promotion of this service is mostly to people having a difficult time getting into the spirit of the season, to me it speaks to many more of us.  So I thought I'd share the brief Prayer of Approach from that bulletin:

"Loving God, as we journey toward Christmas, we are aware there is much in the world that deafens our ears to the sound of angel anthems, and blinds our eyes to the star that would guide us to the manger.  All merciful God, forgive us when we let the world distract us from your love, and when we let fear keep us from sharing it with others.  Help us focus our hearts on you.  In Christ we pray.  Amen."

Will we see you there?  Or maybe you are one of those people (like Jim and me) who go away for Christmas to be with relatives.  We have NEVER been able to attend a Christmas Eve service here... until this year!  We are excited about celebrating in our own Meeting House at the new Travelers' Christmas service on December 18th at 5 pm.  If you are going to the usual Christmas Eve service on the 24th, please keep this alternate service in mind and share with others who might love to come!  We will do our best to recreate as much of the traditional one as possible - right down to the oranges.  Of course, the crowd might not be as large...

Lest I forget about Missions, we have two important announcements.  Since we did not have time last Sunday, we will dedicate the Salvation Army gifts during the service THIS Sunday before they are delivered to Waterbury in the beginning of the week.  They are looking for volunteers to help out in the toy distribution in Waterbury on December 21, 22, and 23.  Please note that this is a change from what I published in the Judea Journal December issue.

Also, we will be serving dinner at Loaves and Fishes on the 29th.  Please read the announcement on the right and sign up.  We still need all the food AND servers to help that day. You can sign up online or at church on Sunday.

So what does your Advent look like?  We’d love to hear about your precious practice(s) that help prepare your heart.  Share them with us and let us know if we can share them (even anonymously) with others.

All of the announcements on the right – and more – are in the Monthly Issue of the Judea Journal for December!

Wishing you peace and inspiration during this Advent season!
