Judea eNews for June 7 - Wild West Prom and Youth Service this weekend

Dear Friends,

Be sure to join us this Sunday for the ever popular and lively Youth Service where we will also celebrate the confirmation of five youth as disciples of Christ and official members of this church.  Our youth group has provided their input for the content of this service in the "Bless to Me" series.  The children will stay through the whole service but nursery care will be available for the younger set who may not be able to make it through the whole service.

Last Sunday in the Annual Meeting, we heard some special requests from the Green Fair committee.  Specifically, they are still looking for someone to run the Live Auction and volunteers to pick up donations from local merchants.  If you want to know more about the Live Auction responsibilities, please contact Mike Gorra.  To offer your help for Silent Auction donation pickups (at merchants you probably already frequent), contact Ben Grinnell if you can lend a hand.  He will also have a list at church on Sunday.

As part of our preparations for welcoming a new pastor here next year, we are holding several meetings to gather feedback from members to rewrite our church purpose statement and covenant.  Read the announcement on the right and find a day and time that works for you to participate.

Thanks to everyone who shared their blessings with victims of disasters, natural and man-made, throughout the world by giving to our annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering taken last Sunday. If you missed that opportunity last week, you can still drop off, send in via US mail, or contribute online using our secure giving page.

If you have not gotten your tickets to the All-Church Prom THIS Saturday, June 9 hosted by our Youth Group, there is still a bit more time but hurry!  Contact Emelie or Mike Burl to make other arrangements for buying yours.  All profits from this event will go to aid in rebuilding lives of residents of Puerto Rico affected by the hurricanes last fall and STILL living with the aftermath.  If you can't come, donations are also welcome but it would be even better if you could join the festivities, too!

And mark your calendars for Sunday, June 17 - Fathers' Day - for our annual River Service and Strawberry Shortcake social at 60 River Road, Washington Depot.  Any questions?  Contact the church office.

Blessed be your day and week ahead!

Announcements

We need your feedback - Appreciative Inquiry Sessions

John Lintner and Pastor Cheryl will be leading a process to update the church purpose statement and covenant in our bylaws; which will give potential ministerial candidates a more accurate picture of this congregation.

There will be four opportunities for you to participate in an “Appreciative Inquiry” process that will give us the raw materials to write a covenant that truly expresses the ethos and values of this congregation. We hope that you will be able to participate either Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 pm, on Tuesday, June 12 – 6:30-8:30 pm; OR Saturday, June 23 – 10 am-noon; OR Sunday, June 24, 11:30-1:30 pm. All meetings will be held in the Parish House.  Sign up by emailing or calling the church office, or on the sign-up sheet at church on Sunday.

Soldier Boxes - Donations needed by FRIDAY

"The Town Hall Gang" sends two boxes to military personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan every week.  One box is for personal care items and the other is for food items.  They send to a variety of troops - some with connection to people in Washington and others are total strangers.

Note: Remember that we cannot send aerosol cans so shaving cream must be in tubes.

14 May 2018:
Hello all, this is SPC Perez stationed out of Fort Huachuca (may have to look it up) representing some guys and a gal currently located overseas. For a lot of us, this is our first deployment and having been out here over a month already I can truly say it has been a unique experience so far. It all starts with our living condition - we have 3-4 individuals to a CHU (Containerized Housing Unit - Basically, the small trailers you see in the movies) and it's nice all things considered but we have no access to freezers, refrigerators or microwaves because I guess those aren't essentials? Which is kind of unfortunate because pizza rolls are great. We have electricity in 220V, which I learned the hard way when my phone charger blew out. Phones don't really have much use out here though so it wasn't too devastating. There are no problems with laundry as we have a local service. Our food scenario is where we are hurting a bit. We have no cooking appliances so that does not help out. Meals are all over the place. Snacks like non-perishables (Beef jerky, trail mix, gummies, etc.) would be greatly appreciated along with letters or notes because, in my opinion, nothing is more authentic. I have learned though, that even a heartfelt email is infinitely better than nothing and that's one of the many things I can thank the Army for. This deployment is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one day at a time, we will get it done. Thank you very much for your time.

Annual River Service and Strawberry Shortcake - Sunday, June 17

Hi all!  The strawberries are beginning to ripen… let’s hope it gets a little warmer so they are ready for next Sunday!  The River service is 10 AM on June 17, followed by a strawberry shortcake social hosted by our Deacons.

Many/most probably know the usual location but for those who have never been, will be at:

60 River Road, Washington Depot (balloons at the driveway entrance)

Parking will be obvious.  The service will be held down in the field near the Shepaug River.  Those for whom mobility is a challenge will be chauffeured down and back up afterward in a golf cart.

Teens will meet at the parking lot on Titus Road, Washington Depot, beside the Shepaug River at a time to be determined.  Contact Emelie Samuelson if you plan to participate.

Enjoy great fellowship and strawberry shortcake provided by our deacons after the service on Susan and Conrad's deck!

Plan to come on down to the river to pray - and celebrate with us.

In case of rain, the service will be held in the Meeting House.
