Christian Education

Christian Education for children and adults is one of the pillars of our church.  Our goal is to help families to nurture the faith of all their members through age-appropriate programs and a coordinated curriculum that encourages intergenerational activities and common themes.  Our new Faith Practices curriculum provides material for use in worship services, Christian Education programs, as well as ideas for taking these practices into the home.

One Room Sunday School - Begins in church on Sundays, except for first Sunday of each month, where the children spend the entire time in the Parish House Sunday School room.  On those Sundays other than communion days, the children stay through the "Time for Youth", or youth "sermon", and then leave with the Sunday School teacher for the Parish House where they continue with age-appropriate learning activities related to the all-church Faith Practice for that week and also related to the youth sermon.

Youth Group - Our Youth Group is a fun, welcoming, supportive group, where kids can explore and grow as we work, play, sing, serve, worship, eat, and reflect together.  Led by Emelie and Mike Burl, we meet the last Sunday evening of each month from 5 to 7 pm.  All youth, grades 6 and up, are welcome.  Contact Emelie for more information, or if you are interested in joining!  You can also download a registration form (PDF) (MS Word) from our website and bring it with you the first time you attend.  For field trips. you can get a permission slip here.

Silver Lake Conference Center - Summer camp and year round conference center of the United Church of Christ, Connecticut Conference.

Take a few moments to experience yourself a little of what Silver Lake does for your children and youth.  We are so very fortunate to have this great camp and to send so many of our kids there each summer.

Bible Study - Earnest inquiry and lively conversation characterize these studies.  Taking the Bible seriously, but not literally, we use various resources for these programs from biblical scholars like Marcus Borg.

Spiritual Practice - Bring your faith alive with spiritual practice.  Learn something new, or come practice with a supportive group of fellow seekers.  Programs include contemplative prayer, meditation, and use of our in-house labyrinth.

Practical Application Courses - Bring your faith alive with by incorporating spiritual beliefs about Jesus' teachings in your daily life.  These courses include:  Compassionate (or Non-Violent) Communication
